IndonesiaGate

Texas Darling has reposted the controversial Indonesian citizenship issue of Barack Obama, if the document provided is true then it means that Barack has been lying to everyone.

Barack was a Kenyan before he wasn’t, he was a Muslim before he wasn’t, now he was an Indonesian before he wasn’t… Sounds awful fishy to me. The FEC needs to conduct a real investigation into who Barack Obama really is.

I also wonder if he ever lied on paperwork he filled out. He has used at least 2 different names in his life, had Kenyan citizenship and may have had Indonesian citizenship and may not have renounced it, which would make him Indonesian by their laws and the US and Indonesia do not maintain a dual citizenship status.

TD NoteThis story was originally published on Aug. 13, 2008 as a *breaking* report. It is re-posted now due to its relevance in light of the lawsuit pending in federal court, for which defendants have now been served. The story has been edited slightly to reflect updated translations and other current information. The original comments are attached.

Some additional stories from this blog, now in archive, will also be made available soon due to reader requests.

We just received this photo of a school registration form, courtesy of reader “curious,” taken by Tatan Syuflana, an Indonesian AP reporter and photographer. To my knowledge, the AP has not written a story about this. [revision: There was an AP story story in Jan. 2007, but it did not include this photo]. The photo has become relevant now in the context of other revelations reported on this blog. Here is the AP folder where Syuflana’s photo was found:www.daylife.com

The AP caption reads: “This registration document, made available on Jan. 24, 2007, by the Fransiskus Assisi school in Jakarta, Indonesia, shows the registration of Barack Obama under the name Barry Soetoro into the Catholic school made by his step-father, Lolo Soetoro. The document lists Barry Soetoro as a Indonesian citizen, born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, and shows his Muslim step-father listed the boy’s religion as Islam. (AP Photo/ Tatan Syuflana)” [NOTE: the AP did verify the photo]

Thanks to reader Matthew at The Change and Experience blog for the translation:

What This Documentation Means

This AP photo is compelling evidence of the following assertions, which have been set forth on this blog:

1. Barack Obama had Indonesian citizenship

2. Barack Obama had the legal name Barry Soetoro

3. Barack Obama was a Muslim, despite his “fight the smears” claim that he never has been. (see story that we posted on this topic).

When was Barack Obama going to tell the electorate about his Indonesian identity and citizenship?

What is the current status of his Indonesian citizenship?

Did Barack Obama travel to Pakistan in 1981 on an Indonesian passport?

Does his birth certificate say Barry Soetoro?

Did he ever legally change his name from Soetoro to Obama?

Is the correct name on the ballot?

Is Barack Obama an Indonesian Citizen?

On Sunday, I received an email from An Expat in Southeast Asia, Larry Martin.

He wrote this:

Obama is Indonesian.

“My sources claim that he was adopted and that the Indonesian government is aware of this – so are Obama’s people who cut a deal with the Indonesian government to have the records suppressed.”

And he referred me to this Sept. 18 post, Obama Throwing Papua Under the Bus, which apparently was not read by enough people. He instructed me to read it carefully. So I did, and here’s the upshot.

According to Martin’s post, U.S. Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, an outspoken critic of Indonesia’s oppression of Papua and a Barack Obama supporter (and Superdelegate), visited Indonesia in July 2007, with the purpose of “acquiring any and all documentation or photographs of a young Barry Soetoro.” Martin claims that a substantial sum of money was exchanged. He writes:

The challenge of course was securing Indonesian goverment records potentially damaging to Barack Obama’s candidacy for the US presidency as well as other records pertaining to a young Barry Soetoro and his family wouldn’t be so easy to acquire and secure..

“In the end,” according to Martin, “everyone got what they wanted, all to the detriment of the West Papuans”:

…In a show of faith, Barack Obama’s childhood school would be one of the very first beneficiaries of this outpouring, receiving thousands of dollars to upgrade the school and for the purchase of computer equipment…

..The only issue of contention Faleomavaega would face from the Indonesian government would be the issue of West Papua. In the end, it was simply a give and take situation. The Obama campaign needed assistance from the Indonesian government and the Indonesian government wanted a free hand in Papua.

Later concerning Faleomavaega’s meeting, Indonesian presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal would have this to say: “One thing that is sure is that Faleomevaega’s visit here has changed his views about Indonesia. It has made him realize this country is so vast and complex it cannot be reduced by the Papua issue…” Dino said Faleomavaega was known as a US Congress member who often commented on the Papuan issue but now he had changed his views. “He now sees that Papua is inalienable part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.”

Faleomevaega’s and meeting with Indonesia’s president regarding West Papua and his subsequent flipflop on supporting West Papau’s right to self-determination is something that you might think would warrant at least a press release on the congressman’s website, but there is nothing, nor is there any mention on the House Subcommittee’s site. No press release, nothing, not even a mere mention of his trip to Indonesia.

Martin, as conveyed via email to me, thinks it’s time to ask Congressman Eni Faleomavaega a few questions:

1) What was the purpose of visiting Obama’s childhood school?

2) How much money was given to Barack Obama’s school, and why?

3) Why was there no mention of his trip to Indonesia and, considering his previous position, why was there a complete shift of his position on autonomy for the residents of Papua?

4) What did he discuss with the President of Indonesia regarding Barack Obama?

And My Questions:

1) What is the current status of Obama’s Indonesian citizenship? Was it ever repudiated? If so, when? Martin wrote that “Obama is (not was) Indonesian. [Keep in mind from Judah Benjamin’s work that Kenyan citizenship, which Obama has now admitted acquiring at birth, automatically expired, but he would have had to formally renounce Indonesian citizenship by age 21.]

2) What was the nature of the records that were “acquired” by the US delegation, and how were they “suppressed?”

I have no additional information at this time.  This report will be updated if/when new information is received.

DISCLAIMER: I am reporting information from a third party, and have no independent collaboration or documentation of such claims. The sole purpose of this inquiry is to investigate the qualifications of a public figure who is a presidential candidate.

  1. I went to a Presbyterian school (in a first world country) and was enrolled as a Presbyterian, even though I was Anglican (Episcopalian) and my parents were too. The school authorities (registrar) told my parents to write down Presbyterian because that was my grandfather’s religion and it would be easier for the school to process. Religious realists, the administrations interest was simply in getting a good student into a good school and providing a good education.

In Obama’s case, you’re talking about documentary evidence from Indonesia–hardly a country where manipulation of bureaucratic processes is unknown–and trying to assert first world rule-of-law values. The school papers are not a smoking gun: just a damp squib.

  2. Mungo,
First of all the papers being referenced are in regard to a Christian school, so you are telling me it would be easier to register at a Christian school as a muslim than a Christian?
Second of all, Obama has not produced a enough to show he is eligible. His campaign refuses to do so. Now there is a possibility that a US Congressman went to Indonesia and collected any evidence of Obama’s citizenship.
