Washington Post – Posts Fake WSJ Ad Claiming McCain Won Debate?

Chris “Sleeza” Cillizza from the Washington Post, has posted an article that links to a screenshot from the Wall Street Journal with an alleged ad claiming John McCain already won tonights debate. He attributes the find to an anonymous reader. Now the question I have is who took the screenshot, Sleeza or his anonymouys reader. Second, is this the legitimate image or did he make it?

It looks more like a fake to me, the fact that the address bar and header for the website was omitted when clearly the screen resolution did not require one to scroll down to view, but the windows taskbar was visible is odd. Additionally the image of McCain is not as crisp as an internet ad should appear, it has the beginning of pixilation. I would venture to say this is a fake.

In addition to this, the ads displayed in that section of their pages is delivered from doubleclick.net, so the Post has no control on the content being displayed. The ads change dynamically. Another reason to believe this is a fake shop job…

Here is my version of the alleged John McCain Won…

McCain Wins Debate

Although the fate of tonight’s presidential debate in Mississippi remains very much up in the airJohn McCain has apparently already won it — if you believe an Internet ad an astute reader spotted next to this piece in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning.

“McCain Wins Debate!” declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: “McCain won the debate– hands down.”

Here’s the screenshot.

Here is my version of the page just for Chris
