FoxNews is reporting that authorities are looking for two men in the area. See the FoxNews report for details. Will report on later. I would have to imagine this is related if not the same threat as reported earlier by Atlas Shrugs, but not covered by the mainstream media.
The FBI is seeking the identity and whereabouts of these two men.
The FBI released photographs of two men Monday who have been seen on Washington state ferries “exhibiting unusual behavior” and asked the public for help identifying them. The agency’s Seattle field office, along with the Washington Joint Analytical Center, was seeking the men’s identities and whereabouts after they were seen aboard local ferries on several occasions.Meanwhile, bomb squad experts from the Washington State Patrol on Wednesday inspected a ferry docked in Seattle after a suspicious package was reported by a crew member. The ferry was delayed as officials investigated the parcel, which was found in an area where passengers ride.“Over the last six to eight weeks, there has been an increase in some unusual activity reporting,” Assistant Special Agent in Charge Dave Gomez in Seattle told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. “What we are seeing are individuals engaging in behavior that citizens deem suspicious.”Click here to read the Post-Intelligencer report.
Ferry operators and passengers reported seeing men taking picture of doorways and other parts of the ferry, as well as asking questions about its schedule and how it runs.
The two were seen on several ferry routes.
The suspicious behavior included “an inordinate interest in the operation of the shipboard systems as opposed to the beautiful scenery passing by,” Gomez told the paper. But the activity could be innocuous, the agency said.
The FBI has received dozens of tips since releasing the photographs, the paper reported.
The agency circulated the photos three weeks ago among ferry workers, and a ferry system spokeswoman told the paper that security has been increased for the last three weeks.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI’s Seattle office at 206-622-0460.
Update: If you paid attention to Atlas’ report, you would realize there is more to this article than is being said. Neither article here mentions the USCG presence on land inspecting those leaving the ferry. Additonionally this port is a big entry from Canada and takes passenger vehicles on it, which Atlas’ report indicates a possibility of using those vehicles as a weapon.
The fact that the media dragged it’s feet in reporting this, yes this was public knowledge just not pushed out by the FBI, is oddly strange. Obviously people knew what was happening on these ferries and nobody spoke to the media about it, the media did not pick it up on the blogsphere and investigate further. Shows where priorities are, maybe if Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears were drunk and naked on the ferry it would have made National News…
As I stated in a prior post, this is at the time that other flags appear to indicating something is in the works. This may turn out to be perfectly harmless and the two individuals may be innocent of any wrong doing, however until they are found and investigated, it is better to err on the side of caution and suspect the obvious. Debbie Schlussel has some commentary worth reading and a little bit of detail about why the media has now picked up the story after refusing to initially publish pictures of the two actors.
But, now, it appears that FBI suspicions were correct. This morning, a Seattle-area ferry was evacuated, after a suspicious package was found behind a toilet in the ferry’s bathroom stall for the disabled (where it would be less likely to have been found, since those stalls are used less than regular stalls):
A “suspicious package” was found at the height of the Wednesday morning commute on one of the largest ferries in the Washington state fleet, idling the vessel for about an hour. The 460-foot Puyallup had just been emptied of cars and passengers after arriving at Colman Dock from Bainbridge Island about 8 a.m. when the package was found behind the toilet in the disabled passenger stall in the men’s restroom, said Marta Coursey, a spokeswoman for the ferry system. . . .
Patrol Sgt. Craig H. Johnson would not disclose any details on the object, describing it only as a “suspicious package,” but said investigators determined it did not pose any immediate threat and carried it off the vessel for further examination.
No arrests were made and no identified individuals were being sought, but “we’d like to find the person who left it there,” Johnson said.
But, hey, I’m sure the two men acting suspiciously and very likely Muslims from the Mid-East, had nothing to do with it. Right?
As the French would say, “Quelle Coincidence.” What a coincidence.
Too bad I don’t believe in coincidences. Do you?
Thanks to Reader Duane for the tip. He doesn’t believe in coincidences either.
Oh, and by the way, Muslims are angry with the release of the photos. They’re sure the men in the photos are Arab Muslims. Since they insist on it, I guess I’ll have to believe them. Now, why would they think that, when there’s no evidence from the photos that the men are Muslim? Well, maybe because most Muslims know that the only men planning terrorist attacks on American ferries are Muslims. Thanks, Muslim community, for confirming what you continue to deny, but that which everyone else (and you, too) knows for certain:
The release of the photo has angered many in the Muslim community.”These men look like Arabs,” said Aziz Junejo. “What most people would personify as a so-called terrorist and the fear that our government is putting into people right now.”
The FBI insists that it’s not trying to scare anyone and that they just want to talk to the two men and move on, and Aziz and Bureau officials agree that federal agents have developed an excellent relationship with the Muslim community.
But, as far as we know, agents never took the photos directly to anyone in the Muslim community to ask for help.
Gee, I wonder why.
Michelle Maklin posts about the Seattle P-I’s decision to hold a Haiku contest instead of protect he citizens of Seattle… As she states, the blogsphere has taken on the Media’s responsibilty of reporting the things that are important.
And EagleSpeak has some good information with links regarding prior threats to Seattle in 2005 and 2006…
Update 2: The package found on the ferry turned out to be a bong, however do not dismiss the story because of this, the important news is that the Seattle P-I has hurt national security and put the people of Seattle in danger by not responsibly reporting the news, and two that there are two unknown men scouting these ferries for possible targets in a terrorist plot.
